MaThRad researchers discover more about SCONE

Members of the MaThRad Post Doctoral Research Associate team came together on the University of Warwick campus for a 2-day workshop to discover more about SCONE (Stochastic Calculator Of Neutron Transport Equation) – a Monte Carlo particle transport code developed by the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge.

SCONE is designed to be an accessible Monte Carlo particle transport environment for students and researchers to learn about Monte Carlo methods and explore new ideas and is central to the MaThRad programme.

Under the guidance of Mikolaj Adam Kowalski and Valeria Raffuzzi (Cambridge) the group received an introduction to the theoretical aspects of the software and gained practical experience by applying the code to various case studies.

(The team also enjoyed some scones of the sweeter variety – raising the age-old debate of whether jam or cream should come first!)
